uwazi is a celebrated and renowned Black queer performance artist and social arts activist hailing from Houston, TX. Uwazi uses slam poetry, theatre, dance, and visual art to explore the intricacies of being both Black and same gender loving, following the artistic legacy of Black SGL performers Essex Hemphill and Assoto Saint. uwazi's work produces social and transformational pieces that bring Black SGL voices to life as a tangible reality.
